Seven Softball Players Earn NFCA Scholar-Athlete Honors

TULSA, Okla. - Seven University of Tulsa softball players were honored as NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, the organization announced.

Current TU senior Julie Kernen, junior Jocelyn Sheffield, sophomore Maddie Withee, and 2014 seniors Jill Barrett, Shelby Blanton, Haley Henshaw and Emma Horton all received Scholar-Athlete honors from the NFCA. The award is given to softball student-athletes with a 3.5 grade-point average or higher.

The Golden Hurricane compiled a 3.334 team GPA - one of 57 Division I teams nationally with a team GPA of 3.3 or higher. TU is also one of just 11 teams that carried a 3.3 team GPA and played in the NCAA Tournament in 2014. The NFCA honored 1,096 Division I athletes that completed the 2013-14 academic year with a minimum 3.5 GPA.
