TU Women Place Second at Missouri Southern Cross Country Invite

JOPLIN, Mo. - Sophomore Clara Langley finished third in the 5K with a time of 17:05.04 to lead The University of Tulsa women's cross country team to a second place finish at the Missouri Southern Stampede on Saturday.
The time was a personal best for Langley, who paced a group of nine Golden Hurricane runners that set personal records in the 5K race. The Hurricane scored 49 points to finish behind Arkansas, which totaled 24 points, and ahead of Oklahoma, which totaled 82 points, among the Division I schools at the meet. The Tulsa men's team finished second among Division I teams with 138 points, trailing Oklahoma's 38 points.
All five TU women's scorers placed among the top-15 finishers in the race. Sophomore Stacie Taylor followed Langley with a 10th place time of 17:15.90. Senior Brandi Krieg (17:22.78), senior Natasha Cockram (17:31.35) and freshman Nicole Lee (17:33.06) finished 12th, 13th and 14th, respectively to round out the Tulsa scoring.
A young group of runners raced for the Hurricane men's team, with three freshmen, a sophomore and a junior among the finishers. Redshirt freshman Adam Roderique led the group with a 12th-place 8K time of 25:30.39, and was followed by redshirt freshman Kirk Smith, who ran a 25:38.81 to place 18th. Sophomore Dallas Elmore ran a 26:10.09 to finish 26th, junior Jake McDonnell ran a 26:18.58 to place 31st, and freshman Steven Salvano ran a 26:45.63 to finish 49th and close out the TU group.
Sophomore Olivia Lopez, at 17th with a time of 17:45.58, and freshman Anna Bearss, with a 19th-place 17:54.85, also finished among the top 20 runners for the women. Redshirt freshman Danielle Medearis placed 21st with a time o f18:02.62, and sophomore Olivia O'Hare ran an 18:38.72 to place 38th.
The Golden Hurricane men's and women's teams return to action Oct. 3 when it travels to South Bend, Indiana for the Notre Dame Invitational.
