More than 45 first-year student-athletes that were enrolled in classes during the summer term participated in a Summer Bridge Program conducted by Academic & Student Services (OASIS) of The University of Tulsa's Department of Athletics.
The Summer Bridge Program is aimed at assisting student-athletes in making a smooth and successful transition to college life both as a student and athlete before the fall term begins. The program's objectives also include identifying campus resources available to promote academic, social and athletic success; to provide opportunities in developing critical thinking and communication skills; and, to develop effective learning and time management skills.
Through a series of weekly meetings with OASIS staff members and various workshops and speakers, the student-athletes learned about the necessary transitional skills and resources in making the jump to college, including: making an academic game plan, note-taking and reading, communication skills, time management, goal-setting, finances and utilization of resources.
In its third year, the Summer Bridge Program began June 15 and ended July 22, as the group met twice weekly.
