TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa men's cross country team will compete for a national title Saturday at the NCAA Cross Country Championships at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Ind. The men's race begins at 11 a.m. CT.
The Golden Hurricane earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships, as a results of finishing second at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship last weekend. This is the sixth straight year and seventh overall that Tulsa has competed in the national championship meet. It is the third time in four years it earned an automatic bid to the meet.
The championships will be streamed live for free on FloTrack.com, and live race results will be available at ncaa.com.
The Hurricane is ranked No. 16 in the USTFCCCA Division I National Coaches Poll, their highest ranking of the season. Tulsa placed 20th at the 2015 NCAA Championships, and their highest finish was seventh in 2012.
TU senior Luke Traynor won the Midwest Regional men's race – his second victory of the season. Traynor also won the American Athletic Conference Championship, and was named the Midwest Region Male Athlete of the Year.
Traynor, who was an All-America last year after placing 34th, is running in his second NCAA Championships. Junior teammates Ben Preisner and Adam Roderique, and sophomore Isaac Dobos ran at the NCAA Championships last season.
The men's teams competing for the national title are: No. 1 Northern Arizona, No. 2 Colorado, No. 3 Stanford, No. 4 BYU, No. 5 Syracuse, No. 6 Arkansas, No. 7 Iona, No. 8 Oklahoma State, No. 9 Portland, No. 10 UCLA, No. 11 Ole Miss, No. 12 Wisconsin, No. 13 Oregon, No. 14 Colorado State, No. 15 Michigan State, No. 16 Tulsa, No. 17 North Carolina State, No. 18 Washington State, No.19 UTEP, No. 20 Georgetown, No. 21 Virginia, No. 22 Middle Tennessee, No. 23 Iowa State, No. 24 Illinois, No. 25 Southern Utah, No. T-26 Navy No. T-26 California, No. 28 Dartmouth, No. 29 Boise State, No. 30 Providence and Texas.
