UPDATE: Schedule Changed for Softball Rock Chalk Challenge

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa softball team travels to Lawrence, Kan., for the Rock Chalk Challenge this weekend, March 18-20, at Arrocha Ballpark. The tournament schedule has been changed due to wintry precipitation in the area on Friday.

The games scheduled for Friday have been canceled. The Golden Hurricane (18-5) now plays Saturday at 10 a.m. against Minnesota and 3 p.m. against UMKC. TU closes the tournament Sunday at 12:30 p.m. against Saint Louis. The updated schedule is listed below.

The Hurricane defeated Minnesota at home Tuesday, 6-4, then won at Arkansas, 4-3, Wednesday. TU has won three in a row and seven of its last eight games.

Tulsa is tied with Minnesota in the all-time series, 2-2, and with Kansas, 8-8. The Hurricane has won four in a row against the Jayhawks, including a 3-2 decision last year in Tulsa. TU also won twice in Lawrence, 3-0 and 4-2, in 2011, and the teams split in Tulsa in 2009, a 603 KU win and a 4-0 TU win. Tulsa leads the series against Saint Louis, 2-1. The teams last met in 2009, when the Billikens won, 10-2. TU won the first two meetings, 4-2 in 1993, and 8-2 in 2004. Tulsa leads the series with UMKC, 13-0, including a 7-0 win in the last meeting, in 2010 at TU.

The Hurricane is led by junior left fielder Maddie Withee, who hits .314 and had a team-high 23 RBI with four doubles and three home runs. Freshman second baseman Morgan Neal leads TU with a .349 batting average, and has 11 RBI and 13 runs. Junior third baseman Maggie Withee hits .347 with 21 runs, four doubles, 13 walks and a .447 on-base percentage. Sophomore shortstop Shelby Estocado hits .333 with six home runs, 17 RBI and 21 runs, and leads TU with a .638 slugging percentage. Senior first baseman Jocelyn Sheffield has put up 20 RBI, four home runs and four doubles, and hits .288. Senior center fielder Jodi Edmiston and freshman designated player Julia Hollingsworth hit .290 and .333, respectively, as TU has five players in its lineup hitting .300 or better.

Senior Caitlin Sill leads Tulsa in the circle with a 1.12 ERA and a 9-1 record. She has allowed a .197 opponent batting average, 11 earned runs and 50 hits in 69.0 innings. Sophomore Emily Watson is 6-4 with a 1.72 ERA, has 76 strikeouts and has allowed 13 earned runs on 40 hits and a .201 opponent batting average in 53.0 innings.

Tulsa is hitting .291 with 132 runs, 113 RBI, 50 extra base hits, a .430 slugging percentage and a .375 on-base percentage. The Hurricane pitchers have posted a combined 1.89 ERA with 123 strikeouts in 152.0 innings, and allowed a .222 opponent batting average, 129 hits and 41 earned runs.
