Tulsa Men’s Tennis Falls to 38th Ranked Oregon, 4-1, in First Round of NCAA Tennis Championships

NORMAN, Okla. – In their 18^th NCAA appearance, the 23^rd ranked University of Tulsa men's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to 38^th ranked Oregon in the first round of the NCAA Tennis Championships Friday afternoon at the Headington Family Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Oklahoma. The Golden Hurricane finished the 2016 campaign with an overall 17-14 record.

In doubles play, Oregon clinched the doubles point with wins in the first two flights. The Ducks' 42^nd ranked doubles team of Jayson Amos and Armando Soemarn (No. 1) topped Or Ram-Harel and Francois Kellerman in a 6-2 decision, before Daan Maasland and Simon Stevens (No. 2) registered a 6-4 win over Dylan McCloskey and Dominic Bechard to take a 1-0 match lead going into singles play.

TU's lone singles win came from the nations 48^th ranked player junior Or Ram-Harel, who tied the match score at 1-1 with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Daan Maasland to start singles play. Oregon picked up back-to-back singles wins to extend the match lead to 3-1 as Ethan Young-Smith (No. 6) defeated freshman Okkie Kellerman, 6-4, 6-3, and Cormac Clissold (No. 5) defeated freshman Francois Kellerman, 7-6, 6-4. Thomas Laurent (No. 3) clinched the Oregon victory as he picked up the Ducks third singles win outlasting Majed Kilani, 6-4, 7-5.

Tulsa's Or Ram-Harel will compete at the NCAA Singles Championships on his home court as Tulsa hosts the NCAA Division I Men's & Women's Tennis Championships, May 19-30, at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
