TULSA, Okla. –– The Tulsa women's soccer team began preparations for the 2016 season Wednesday with the first practice of preseason camp.

The Golden Hurricane welcomed 27 players to camp, including 17 returning letterwinners and 10 freshmen. Head coach Kyle Cussen begins his ninth season at TU, as the Hurricane looks to improve on its 13-6-1 overall record and 4-4-1 American Athletic Conference mark from 2015.

"We're excited to start practice. Soccer is a sport where you practice nine months to play three, so any time we get to be on the field with the players, we're excited to be here," Cussen said. "I think there's a lot of energy on this team with our returning players, and right now a third of our team is freshmen. They have a lot of energy and excitement about starting their college careers. We are excited about how much talent we have on this team. We're just ready to get going."

Tulsa begins play with an exhibition game at TCU on Aug. 14, and officially opens the season on Aug. 19 and 21 against Loyola Marymount and South Carolina, respectively, at the Sooner Classic in Norman, Okla. The TU home opener is Sept. 2 against Missouri State at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.
