TULSA, Oklahoma –– Prior to the Annual Mayor's Cup Game Monday night, in which Tulsa defeated the ORU Golden Eagles by a score of 90-71, there was a special POW/MIA 'Chair of Honor' dedication in the concourse of the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
Rolling Thunder Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Chapter of National Veteran Advocacy Group with a mission of POW and MIA awareness, unveiled the POW/MIA 'Chair of Honor' at the Reynolds Center. The unoccupied seat will forever be reserved at The University of Tulsa to honor prisoners of war and those missing in action.
City of Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum, The University of Tulsa President Gerard Clancy and Vice President/Director of Athletics Derrick Gragg among other dignitaries addressed those in attendance. Clancy, a U.S. Air Force veteran, is one of only a small number of veterans to currently serving as a University President.
The Reynolds Center became the fifth venue in the state of Oklahoma to have a POW/MIA 'Chair of Honor' located in its facility. Earlier this year, a 'Chair of Honor' was dedicated at TU's H.A. Chapman Stadium prior to the Tulsa-Navy football game on September 30. In addition, the city of Tulsa's ONEOK Field and BOK Center and the state capitol in Oklahoma City all have an unoccupied seat that is dedicated to those American service members who have been missing in action in all wars since World War I.
