
Tulsa Falls on the Road to Wichita State 2-1

WICHITA, Kan. - The University of Tulsa Softball team fell to Wichita State 2-1 on the road at Wilkins Stadium on Thursday evening in a contest where TU out-hit their opponent six hits to four. The Hurricane (26-12 Overall) tallied five hits in the opening two frames, going ahead 1-0 before the Shockers (20-13 Overall) put together two runs on three hits and two errors in the sixth.
Julia Hollingsworth led off the ballgame with one of her game-leading two hits, a single to left center field that gave her six straight games with a hit while raising her season average to .407.
Tulsa picked up two more hits in their first showing at the plate as Morgan Neal reached to put at the corners with one down. Maddie Withee sent a fly ball deep to left field to score Hollingsworth on the sacrifice fly as the senior picked up her team-leading 19th RBI while putting TU ahead 1-0.
The Hurricane put three hits on the board once again in the second inning as Rylie Spell, Hollingsworth and Maggie Withee strung together three straight singles to load the bases before being left stranded on a groundout. TU left eight runners stranded to WSU's five on the evening.
Lexi Blevins retired 13 of the first 14 Shocker hitters while holding Wichita State without a hit until one out in the fifth inning, striking out five and walking one. Blevins was replaced by Madison Higley in the sixth inning after the junior was hit by a line drive in a 1-1 game.
The Shockers' Laurie Derrico drove in the eventual game-winning run on the first pitch from Higley as the home team went ahead 2-1.
Blevins was credited with the loss as her record moved to 4-8 on the season while Kelly Spring picked up the win to move to 18-8 after 7.0 innings of work and four strikeouts.
Tulsa wraps up their three-game non-conference road series on Tuesday with a rematch against Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark. The Hurricane came out on top of the Razorbacks in their last meeting at Collins Family Softball Complex 8-0 in five innings.
