University of Tulsa track & field athletes Clara Langley and Kirk Smith were selected CoSIDA (College Sports Information Director of America) First-Team Academic All-District® members for Track & Cross Country District 7, and now are eligible for Academic All-America honors.
The two seniors have each progressed through their athletic careers at Tulsa with perfect 4.00 grade point averages, thus being named to the President's List for eight semesters.
Â
Langley, from Kingston, Canada, earned all-conference honors in cross-country for three seasons and was a member of three conference cross-country championship teams. She placed seventh individually at the 2016 American Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships in the fall. Langley was also a two-time all-conference selection in outdoor track for the Golden Hurricane.
Â
Smith, from St. Louis, Mo., was named as a Rhodes Scholar this year and also was the male recipient of the American Athletic Conference's Commissioner's Postgraduate Leadership Award. He was a member of the four-time cross-country conference championship team, and earned all-conference honors in the 10K and the 3,000m steeplechase during his career in outdoor track.
Â
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. CoSIDA members from throughout the country vote for the All-District and All-America Teams. The Academic All-America Team for Cross Country/Track & Field will be announced in late June.
