TULSA PICKED 4th IN THE WEST
Like last year, the Tulsa Golden Hurricane football team was picked fourth in the American Athletic Conference's West Division preseason poll, as voted on by the league's media.

Tulsa was picked in fourth-place a year ago, and finished the season with a 6-2 record for second place in the West Division.

Memphis was picked first with 169 points and 22 first-place votes, followed by Houston (137), Navy (128), Tulsa (102), SMU (64) and Tulane (30) in the West Division. The top four teams each received at least one first-place vote.

In the East Division, USF was the runaway selection with all 30 first-place votes and a total of 180 points.

VETERAN MONTGOMERY
In just his third season at the helm of the Tulsa football program, Philip Montgomery has the second-longest tenure of head coaches in the American Athletic Conference. Montgomery is tied with SMU's Chad Morris with three years, as the two coaches trail 10th year Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo.

FAMILIAR FACES
Two of the head coaches in the American Athletic Conference – Memphis' Mike Norvell and SMU's Chad Morris – have Tulsa ties. Norvell was a graduate assistant at Tulsa under head coach Todd Graham, while Morris served one season as Tulsa's offensive coordinator under Graham.

Norvell enters his second season at Memphis and Morris is in his third campaign as the SMU head coach.
