TULSA, Okla. ––
Coby Weiss' 22-yard field goal gave the USF Bulls a 25-24 come-from-behind victory over Tulsa Friday night in front of 16,142 fans at H.A. Chapman Stadium.

Tulsa (1-5, 0-3 AAC) took a 10-3 lead into halftime, but USF (6-0, 2-0 AAC) quickly erased its deficit within the first two minutes of the second half to tie the game at 10-10. The Hurricane scored the next 14 points to take a 24-10 lead on back-to-back positions in the third quarter.

After Tulsa's two scores covered 69 and 88 yards, the Hurricane totaled only 5 yards on its final three possessions.

The Bulls scored its first second-half points with an 82-yard, 14-play drive and scored on a one-yard Blake Barnett run, at the 7:10 mark of the 4th quarter, but the PAT was blocked by Tulsa's Jaxon Player, making the score 24-16. USF followed that score with a 10-play, 80-yard scoring drive to cut its deficit to two points at 24-22, as the two-point conversion was stuffed by the Hurricane defense.

USF took its final possession 52 yards setting up Weiss' last second field goal.

"Pretty tough one to swallow. I thought our guys played extremely hard and I thought that for the most part, we controlled that game," said Tulsa head coach Philip Montgomery. "Take your hat off to South Florida. Good football team, obviously, No. 23 team in the nation. I can promise you I'm proud of our men that are down in the locker room, with the effort and the attitude that they're playing with and we're right there. We've got to continue to keep working, continue to keep finishing."

Tulsa totaled 299 yards of total offense, while USF had 497 yards with 214 of those yards coming on their final three possessions. Shamari Brooks turned in his 7th career 100-yard rushing game and scored his 15th and 16th rushing touchdowns of his career.

The Hurricane defense turned in a solid performance with 6 pass break-ups, 6 quarterback hurries, 5 TFLs for -14 yards and 3 sacks for -9 yards

In the first half, Tulsa opened the scoring with 5:09 left on the first quarter clock as Seth Boomer threw the final 14 yards of an 80-yard, 10-play drive to Jarion Anderson. It was Boomer's second career touchdown pass and Anderson's first career TD.

The Bulls responded on the next possession going 78 yards in 11 plays, but had to settle for a 22-yard field goal.

The Hurricane added 3 points with 2:28 left in the first half as Nate Walker knocked through a 34-yard field goal to cap a 10-play, 46-yard drive.

Tulsa went into halftime with a 10-3 lead, but the Bulls still held a 171 to 134-yard edge in total offense. The three points allowed by the Tulsa defense was the fewest for the Bulls this year and the fewest Tulsa had given up in the first half since last year's 8th game of the year at UConn.

USF took its third play from scrimmage in the second half 66 yards on a Jordan Cronkite run that capped a 75-yard drive to knot the score at 10 apiece with just 1:12 taken off the second half clock.

Tulsa jumped back in the lead at the 6:04 mark of the 3rd quarter when the Hurricane went  69 yards in 11 plays, and Shamari Brooks ran the final 10 yards for the score and a 17-10 Tulsa lead following the PAT.  On Tulsa's next possession, it was another 10-yard Brooks run that gave the Hurricane a 24-10 run with 1:00 left in the third quarter.

The Bulls scored the final 15 points to claim the one-point victory.

Tulsa will go out-of-conference next week for a road game across the border in Fayetteville, Arkansas, for an 11:00 am game against the Arkansas Razorbacks.
