MADISON, Wis. — For the ninth time in the last 12 seasons, The University of Tulsa men's cross country team took part in the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, which were held at the Zimmerman Championship Course on Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Hurricane finished with a team score of 777 to finish 30th in the 10K race to end the 2018 season.
Sophomore Peter Lynch led the team with a time of 30:47.1 to finish in 114th place, which was 21 seconds faster than his time at last week's NCAA Midwest Regional. In all, Lynch, Ryan Riddle, Isaac Akers and Cameron Field all improved their times from the regional.
Riddle put up a time of 31:15.2 to finish 168th, while Akers crossed the line in 194th at 31:31.6. Field (218th, 32:04.8), Adam Breaux (249th, 33:27.9) and Mark Middleton (251st, 34:19.6) rounded out the scoring for the Golden Hurricane.
Scott Beattie, who led the team with a second-place finish at the American Athletic Conference Championships, was unable to finish the race.
The race ended another remarkable campaign for Tulsa, as the team won three races and claimed its ninth consecutive conference title, including fifth straight as a member of The American. Six TU runners earned all-conference honors, while Beattie and Lynch garnered all-region accolades.
