LAWRENCE, Kan. – Taylor Otte's two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the seventh pushed Nebraska past Tulsa on Saturday afternoon, the second day of the Jayhawk Invitational.
Julia Hollingsworth went 3-for-4 to extend her hitting streak to 14 games for the Golden Hurricane (14-9), while Shelby Estocado kept her hitting streak, now at 15 games, alive with a 1-for-3 outing. Emily Watson took the loss in the circle with three runs allowed on five hits and six strikeouts in 6.2 innings.
Tristen Edwards put the Cornhuskers (14-7) ahead early with a solo homer to left-center field. However, Watson would not allow another Nebraska hit until the bottom of the sixth.
Tulsa broke through and took the lead with two runs in the top of the third. Hollingsworth singled to left-center and moved to scoring position on a grounder. With two outs, Estocado walked and Haley Meinen brought Hollingsworth home with a single to center field. Estocado then stole third and home as part of a double-steal to give TU the 2-1 lead.
That is where the score stood until the bottom of the seventh. Watson retired the first two batters of the inning before the Huskers rallied. Back-to-back singles and a walk loaded the bases for Otte, who then plated the tying and winning runs with a single.
Tulsa's final two games at the Jayhawk Invitational, originally scheduled for Sunday, have been canceled due to the threat of inclement weather.
