TULSA, Okla. –– Tulsa was back on Harwell field Saturday morning for their second practice of fall camp as the humidity reached 50-percent with a temperature that topped out at 87-degrees.
The Hurricane will practice in pads tomorrow morning for the first time.
"I thought our level of competition really increased today," said Tulsa head coach Philip Montgomery. "You always have the ebbs and flows of practice. I thought the defense came out a little stronger than the offense did, then it evened back out, and then the offense got on a track there that was pretty good, and the defense fought their back way into it."
Montgomery added "that's really what I want to see. There should be really good give-and-take as you're going through fall camp. If you have one side dominating the other side, it's normally not a great sign."
Montgomery discussed putting on pads for the first time Sunday.

"Everything changes when you put pads on, there's so much more to this game when you throw them on. Your gaps start changing –– when you don't have on pads, that gap is pretty tight, all of a sudden you put pads on it might get a little wider. As a running back I'm seeing big holes without pads, then all of a sudden it's squeezing on him. Then you add in the bumps and bruises that you're going to get as you get pads on," said Montgomery.
"It will be fun and exciting tomorrow," Montgomery added. "They'll have even a little more energy because they get to finally put the pads on. We have to be smart and take care of each other."
