The Tulsa women's soccer team earned a 3-1 win over ECU on Thursday night at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. TU moved to 5-4-1 on the season and 1-0 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Pirates fell to 5-2-2 overall and 0-1 in the league.

"We accomplished what we wanted to accomplish, not with just the result, but with the way we played," Head Coach Kyle Cussen said. "We felt like we played well against Kansas State last Sunday in the second half, but we left something out there in the first half. The girls looked focused tonight and seemed to play for each other, and that's what you want to see as we begin conference play. It was a team effort and I'm proud of the way they played."

Mia Darden scored her fifth goal of the season as she picked up a forward pass from Addyson Guthrie and shot from 10 yards out to give Tulsa a 1-0 lead at the 16:17 mark. Neither team found the back of the net for the remainder of the first half and TU took the 1-0 edge into the break.

Just 11 minutes into the second frame Anna Williams picked up her fifth goal on the year as she shot from two yards out into an open net. Darden then earned a second goal on the night in the 83^rd minute as she took the ball from a defender, dribbled up the left side and scored from eight yards out.

ECU got on the board with just 4:09 left in the contest as Jayda Hylton-Pelaia tallied her second goal on the year off a pass from Cashlin Copley.

ECU had an 18-13 lead in shots, including a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal, and a 6-1 lead in corner kicks.

Darden had a team-best five shots, while Williams added three attempts and five others had one shot. Mica MacKay logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up nine saves.

Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, September 23 against Cincinnati. Game time is set for 1:00 pm at the Hurricane Stadium.
