Tulsa’s Zaven Collins Gets Another Freshman All-America Team Honor

SAN JOSE, Calif. –– The University of Tulsa red-shirt freshman Zaven Collins was named today to the prestigious Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) Freshman All-America team, it was announced this morning at the Annual FWAA Awards Breakfast.
It's the second freshman All-America award for the linebacker from Hominy, Okla. In December, Collins was named to the USA Today Freshman All-America team. Collins was the lone representative from an American Athletic Conference school named to the FWAA team.
Collins, who stands 6'4", 250-pounds, moved into the starting lineup in the third game of the 2018 season and ended the year second on the team in tackles, while leading the Golden Hurricane in tackles for lost yards. He was credited with 85 tackles and 9.5 stops for -31 yards. Collins also totaled three quarterback pressures, three pass breakups and had one each of a forced fumble, fumble recovery and blocked kick.
Collins had five double-figure tackle games on the year, including a season-high of 14 stops at Arkansas. He also had 12 tackles against Memphis, Tulane, Arkansas State and 11 stops against #23 USF.
