The Tulsa men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to Memphis on Sunday afternoon at the Memphis Track and Soccer Complex in Memphis, Tenn. The Golden Hurricane fell to 4-8-1 on the season and 0-4 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Tigers moved to 10-4 overall and 4-1 in the league.
"I thought our guys handled their responsibilities pretty well, we created some good chances and we defended pretty well throughout the game, but I am disappointed to not come away with the result that we wanted," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "I am proud of our effort, our concentration level was good throughout, the guys had a good mindset and they prepared well, we did a lot of things right, we just couldn't get the second goal and we were unfortunate to not get the result that we needed."
Rooks Hunter put TU on the board at the 32:16 mark off a pass from Adam Habib, but the Tigers' Peyton McKnatt evened the score just seven minutes later. The two teams battled through the remaining 50 minutes of regulation, but neither team found the back of the net to force overtime.
With just 20 seconds ticked off the clock in overtime, Sam Ashton scored the game winner off a combination from McKnatt and Alexandros Ierides.
Memphis had a 16-14 edge in shots, while Tulsa had a 7-6 advantage in shots on goal and an 8-6 lead in corner kicks.
Harris Partain had a team-leading five shots, while Sean Gavin, Adam Habib, Marcos Moreno and Chase Bromstedt all had two attempts. Bryson Reed logged all 90:20 in goal and picked up four saves.
Tulsa will return to action on Friday, November 1 against Temple. Game time is set for 7:00 pm at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.
