LAWRENCE, Kan. – Tulsa scored eight runs on seven hits in the top of the seventh to blow open a close game on its way to an 11-5 win over Kansas on Friday in the first game of the Rock Chalk Challenge.

Julia Hollingsworth and Morgan Neal each had three hits for the Golden Hurricane (15-8), while Samantha Pochop earned the win with just three hits and a run allowed to go along with five strikeouts in 4.2 innings. Neal, Haley Meinen and Mikayla Whitten drove in two runs apiece and freshman Celyna Shaw came off the bench to hit a three-run homer, the first round-tripper of her career.

Meanwhile, Becki Monaghan went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs to pace the Jayhawks (5-18).

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth, when Kansas got on the board with Brynn Minor's solo homer.

Tulsa came right back with a three-spot in the top of the fifth and it would not trail again the rest of the night.

Neal plated Tori Stafford and Hollingsworth with a double to the gap in right-center to put the Hurricane ahead, 2-1. Two batters later, Aubree Seaney's grounder allowed Neal to touch home and extend the cushion.

The lead remained 3-1 heading into the seventh before Tulsa exploded for its eight runs that blew the game open.

Meinen got the rally started with a two-run single before Whitten brought two more home with a hit to right field. Jesse Smith then made it 8-1 with a single to set the stage for Shaw's big three-run homer to right-center.

Reliever Kassidy Scott, who entered the game with the Jayhawks threatening in the fifth, picked up her fourth save of the season by retiring the side in the seventh. Kansas scored four runs in the inning, but only one of those was earned as Tulsa took the 11-5 final.

The Hurricane will be back in action on Saturday with games against Nebraska (11 a.m.) and Kansas (4 p.m.).
