TULSA, Okla. –– Following a week off due to spring break, the Tulsa Golden Hurricane football team was back on the practice field Tuesday for the eighth of 15 spring practice dates.
"It was good to get back on the field. Guys had a week off, and we got a couple guys back from injury and others I think are close," said Tulsa head coach Philip Montgomery.
"I thought retention was really good and our energy level was good too. We have to maintain that after a week off. Our tempo today got after them a little bit, and that's what we really wanted, but the guys dug deep and I was pleased with the effort and the way they executed," added Montgomery.
With seven more practices remaining in spring drills, including the annual Spring Game on Saturday, April 6, Montgomery talked about what he hopes to accomplish during the remainder of spring practice.
"The No. 1 thing I want at the end of spring drills is to be healthy. No. 2, I just want to execute at a good level. We have to understand that this is a long process. You're not going to have everything you want done finished by the end of spring ball. It's part of the process," said Montgomery.
"I want to see us continue to compete, continue to work. Our defense is really flying around and playing well and making it tough on the offense, which is good. Our defense is pushing the offense to have to continue to make strides and get better, and that will only improve us as a team moving forward."
Tulsa will be back on the field Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week.
