GREENVILLE, N.C. – Tulsa pounded out 10 hits, but ECU scored the game's only run in the bottom of the eighth to claim the series finale, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon.
Julia Hollingsworth, Josie Muffley and Haley Meinen each went 2-for-4 to lead the Golden Hurricane (28-14, 9-3), who left 10 runners on base. Samantha Pochop got the start and scattered three hits over five innings, while Kassidy Scott took the loss and fell to 7-4 after she gave up a run on four hits in 2.1 frames.
Erin Poepping went the distance for the Pirates (20-23, 2-10) to improve to 13-15 for the season. She allowed 10 hits and a walk to go along with four strikeouts in the victory. Tate McClellan went 2-for-4 and drove in the winning run with a single up the middle.
Tulsa put runners in scoring position in the second, third, fifth, sixth and seventh, but was unable to break through.
TU pitchers kept ECU off the board through seven innings to send the game to extra innings.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Pirates strung together three straight one-out singles – the last of which came off the bat of McClellan – to take the 1-0 win and avoid the series sweep.
Tulsa will be back in action at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16 at No. 14 Oklahoma State (31-11).
