TULSA, Okla. –– Local sports radio talk show host and former NFL offensive lineman Jerry Ostroski will return to his alma mater as The University of Tulsa athletic department's Director of Premium Seating, it was announced today by Vice President & Director of Athletics Dr. Derrick Gragg.
Ostroski has served as co-host of the "Coach and the Big O" show on The Sports Animal 97.1 FM Radio for the past 14 months. Ostroski also coached middle school and high school football at Holland Hall School between 2005-18.
"We're excited to have Jerry join our team once again. He brings tremendous knowledge of our city and our athletics program," said Gragg. "In the role of director of premium seating, Jerry brings a uniqueness to the position as a former student-athlete and someone who has been entrenched in this community."
"I've thoroughly enjoyed my 14 months on the radio with Coach Pat Jones. It's been great working beside Pat and with the rest of the staff at The Sports Animal," said Ostroski.
"In 1988, I came to The University of Tulsa as an 18-year-old kid and now I'm incredibly excited to come full circle to where my career began," Ostroski said. "I chose to live in the city of Tulsa for not only the love of the University, but for my love of the city. I'm extremely blessed and humbled to have the opportunity to work with Dr. Derrick Gragg and the rest of the athletic administrative staff at The University of Tulsa,"
"I'm thrilled for the opportunity to help the Tulsa Golden Hurricane athletic department move forward," added Ostroski.
A 1992 graduate of Tulsa, Ostroski was a first-team Associated Press All-America offensive guard his senior season while helping the 1991 Golden Hurricane team to a 10-2 record and a Freedom Bowl Championship.
In addition to his first-team AP honor, the 6'3", 322-pound senior was also named an All-America selection by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), The Sporting News (TSN), United Press International (UPI), College and Pro Football Weekly and the Poor Man's Guide to the NFL Draft.
Last season, Ostroski had his No. 55 jersey retired at halftime of the Tulsa-Tulane football game on October 27, 2018, making him the ninth Tulsa football player to have his jersey retired.
Following his collegiate career (1988-91), Ostroski was a 10th round pick in the NFL draft by the Kansas City Chiefs and went on to a 10-year career with the Buffalo Bills from 1993 through 2002, starting 102 of 106 games on the offensive line.
Ostroski and his wife, Jayme, have four children: Jackson, Owen, Christopher and Carolyn. They have called Tulsa their permanent home since 1997.
Ostroski will begin his position at Tulsa on April 29.
