STILLWATER, Okla. — Tulsa took an early lead, but No. 13 Oklahoma State bounced back to score a 2-1 win over the Golden Hurricane in the championship round of the NCAA Stillwater Regional on Saturday.
Â
The loss ended the season for the Golden Hurricane (37-20), who won at least two games in an NCAA Regional for the fifth time in program history.
Â
Julia Hollingsworth went 2-for-3 with a double and run scored to lead Tulsa, while Rylie Spell also went 2-for-3 in the contest. Chenise Delce took the loss, falling to 15-6 on the season after she gave up two runs on six hits in six innings of work.
Â
Meanwhile, the Cowgirls (42-14) advanced to their second-ever NCAA Super Regional and will await the winner of the Tallahassee Regional. Madi Sue Montgomery led the way with an RBI double, while Kiley Naomi went 2-for-3 with a run scored for Oklahoma State.
Â
Pitcher Samantha Show improved to 19-7 after she gave up just four hits and one run in the complete-game effort.
Â
"I just talked to the team about what a great fight they put up," head coach John Bargfeldt said. "They did that all through the regional, and I just commend them for doing that again in this game here. Oklahoma State made it awfully tough on Chenise. They had a lot of tough at-bats. I want to commend them (OSU) on a great year that they've had. It's fun to compete against them. They're a very talented group, and it raises our level of play whenever we play them. Shout out to them, and good luck to them as they go on."
Â
Tulsa jumped ahead with a run in the top of the first, as Hollingsworth started the game with her double down the left field line. She moved to third on a Morgan Neal's grounder and scored on Alexis Perry's groundout for the 1-0 lead.
Â
Delce kept OSU off the board until the bottom of the third, when Montgomery knotted the score with a two-out RBI double to left field. An inning later, the Cowgirls took the lead for good with another two-out RBI hit, this time off the bat of Sydney Springfield.
Â
The score remained 2-1 heading into the seventh inning. Spell started the frame with a single to put the tying run aboard. She was lifted for pinch runner Celyna Shaw and the freshman made it to third after a pair of grounders.
Â
However, Show recorded the final out to close the 2-1 final and send the Cowgirls to next weekend's NCAA Super Regionals.
