STORRS, Conn. – The Tulsa softball team closed the regular-season with a doubleheader sweep of UConn by scores of 7-5 and 8-0 on Saturday afternoon.

With the wins, the Golden Hurricane improved its overall record to 35-17 with a 16-5 American Athletic Conference mark. Tulsa's 16 league wins are its most since joining The American prior to the 2015 season.

TU will either be the No. 1 or No. 2 seed in next week's American Athletic Conference Championship (May 9-11), which will be held in Houston, Texas. The Hurricane can still claim a share of the league title and top seed at the tournament if Wichita State defeats USF on Saturday and Sunday.

The tournament bracket will be unveiled Sunday by the league office.

Game One
Julia Hollingsworth hit a three-run homer as part of a six-run second inning and Tulsa held off UConn for a 7-5 win over the Huskies in game one of the doubleheader.

Hollingsworth went 2-for-4, with both of her hits going for extra-bases with her fifth triple and third homer of the campaign. Rylie Spell also homered, for her team-leading fifth blast of the spring. In the circle, Samantha Pochop picked up the win to improve to 12-6, while Kassidy Scott came on for her fifth save with two scoreless innings.

Both teams were held scoreless in the first before the Golden Hurricane blew the game open with its six-run second inning.

Haley Meinen got the scoring started with an RBI double before Sarah Briers brought home another run with a single two batters later. Mikayla Whitten's infield hit brought home another run to make it 3-0 and Hollingsworth doubled the score with her three-run blast to center.

However, the Huskies clawed back in it with three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to make it 6-5 headed to the sixth.

Spell added an insurance run for the Hurricane with her solo homer the opposite way for a 7-5 score. The cushion was enough for Scott, who came on to pitch a perfect bottom of the sixth and closed out the game with a scoreless seventh.

Game Two
Chenise Delce tossed a shutout with 10 strikeouts and hit a three-run homer to help the Golden Hurricane close the regular-season with an 8-0 win over UConn in game two.

The freshman logged her fourth shutout of the season and tossed her third game with at least 10 Ks. Julia Hollingsworth doubled twice and scored two runs, while Morgan Neal doubled home two runs for her conference-best 15th two-bagger of the campaign.

Tulsa jumped ahead with a run in the top of the first with the help of a Huskies error. That would be the only run that Delce needed, but she received plenty of insurance when TU exploded for seven runs in the top of the seventh.

In the meantime, Delce scattered six hits and only once allowed a runner past second base.

In the seventh, TU loaded the bases with two walks sandwiched around a single before Neal plated a pair with a double. Rylie Spell singled home another run to make it 4-0. Haley Meinen's sacrifice fly increased the lead to 5-0 and Delce punctuated the frame with her three-run shot to left field.

The freshman then made quick work of the Huskies in the bottom of the seventh to close out the 8-0 win.
