The University of Tulsa men's and women's soccer teams have joined forces to help raise money for the "One Yard at a Time" campaign, which will go towards a new Tahoma 31 grass field at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. Adding the new grass will improve drainage and the playability of the field, as well as help ensure the safety for all those on the field.
Tahoma 31 is a hybrid bermuda grass that has exceptional winter hardiness, has improved wear tolerance and drought resistance, and is ideal for sports turf.
The goal for "One Yard at a Time" is to cover the cost for all 9,000 square yards of the playing surface, and donors can contribute at various levels ranging from $30 to over $10,000 by clicking HERE or by calling 918.631.2342.
Seventeen years ago, the Golden Hurricane soccer and track teams received the most significant development in their history with the completion of the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. The first-class natural grass surface, along with a competition grade track, propelled the programs to new heights in terms of recruiting, scheduling and on-field success. The birth of this stadium has directly benefited student-athletes in eight sports for the last 17 years. Tulsa has hosted multiple conference championships as well as NCAA Tournament games at the Hurricane Stadium.
In addition to benefiting TU student-athletes, the facility has been a leader in the community by hosting multiple High School State Soccer Championships, Tulsa Roughneck soccer games, MLS Teams, US Soccer Development Academy games and Women's Premier Soccer league games. The facility has been at the epicenter of the largest and most significant soccer games in the state.
The Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium is vital to Tulsa's soccer teams, and it's renovation is imperative in continuing to achieve success.
