TULSA, Okla. –– The Tulsa football team was on the practice field for the first day of preseason camp this morning well before the official sunrise of 6:31 a.m. The Golden Hurricane ushered in the 2019 season with a 2-hour workout on the turf at H.A. Chapman Stadium.

"I was really happy with day one. Our energy level was really, really good," said Tulsa head coach Philip Montgomery.  We have a lot of rust to knock off, you can tell that from a tempo standpoint we have to get much better. Defensively, we have to communicate a little more. But, those are all day one things. You can watch tape, go over it on the board, they can do it on their own during the summer, but when they're out here in the live action it's a different speed."

"I was pleased with our effort, the intensity and the competition," added Montgomery.

Among the 110 players on the field today was senior safety Cristian Williams, who was in uniform for the first time since the Texas game of a year ago. Williams was informed the week after that contest with the diagnosis of Arnold Chiari Type 1 malformation (a fluid-filled cyst commonly known as a syrinx).

It was believed that his football-playing career would be over, but after undergoing corrective surgery and continue through the rehabilitative process, Williams received clearance to return to the field and joined his teammates today for the first day of preseason drills.

Tulsa will be back on the practice field at 6:30 a.m. on Friday morning.

Tulsa opens the season on Friday night, August 30 at Michigan State. The Hurricane opens the home season two weeks later on Saturday, Sept. 14, against the Oklahoma State Cowboys in a 2:30 p.m. kickoff from H.A. Chapman Stadium.

Season tickets for the entire 6-game home schedule are available for as low as $100, while Mazzio's Family Fun Zone ticket prices start at $150. Fans can also purchase a 3-game mini-plan ticket package that include games against Oklahoma State, Navy and UCF. Mini-plan packages start at $90.

Tickets can be purchased online at TulsaHurricane.com, by calling 918.631.GoTU (4688) or in person at the Donald W. Reynolds Center Athletic Ticket Office, 8:30-5 p.m., Monday-Friday.
