A LOOK AT THE CORNERBACKS …

TULSA, Okla. –– As was the case entering fall camp, Tulsa coaches continue to be excited about the play from the cornerback position. At the corner, the Golden Hurricane returns basically three starters to the two positions.

Senior Reggie Robinson II and juniors Akayleb Evans and Allie Green IV have combined for 39 career starts. The trio combined for 15 starting assignments a year ago, while each missed at least one game with an injury.

"Our corners really provide a lot of pop to us defensively because of what they can do in coverage and also what they can do in run support," said Tulsa head coach Philip Montgomery.

Last year, Green led the corners in tackles with 36 stops and had three pass break-ups in 11 games, while Evans totaled 21 stops and four PBU's in nine contests. Robinson totaled 19 tackles and had five pass break-ups in eight games.

"We have great length and size at corner and all three of those guys bring something different to the table," Montgomery added.

"I've been pleased with our corners. They've done a good job. We have a lot of depth and a lot of experience," said cornerback coach Aaron Fletcher.  "The older guys really push each other. There's a level of accountability they have to each other. We've played our best when we've had the combination of those three in the rotation."

"All these guys are long and athletic," added Fletcher. "Akayleb is a technician. He's a silent assassin. He adds stability to the group and keeps things even keel for us," said Fletcher. "Allie is the heart and soul of the group. He's going to keep his teammates going, while Reggie has a little bit of both Akayleb and Allie in him. He's probably one of the most athletic guys I've ever coached."

Tulsa coaches brought in more length and athleticism with three newcomers to the cornerback position, including junior college transfers Tyon Davis (6'0") and 6'3" Ryan Nixon. Both sophomores, Davis came to Tulsa from NE Oklahoma A&M, and Nixon from California's El Camino College.

"Tyon and Ryan have both come along and has done some really good things. They each add very good qualities to our secondary. They, along with freshman Reggie Ellis, are soaking in the information and getting pointers from the older guys," said Fletcher.
