TULSA, Okla. –– The heat index at the start of Tulsa's football practice Tuesday morning started at 105-degrees and it ended that same way after the 120-minute workout for the first time this preseason on the grass of Harwell Field.

"We had a good practice. It has been really warm the last two days, and we need that heat. That's part of training camp. I thought our guys responded pretty well. Obviously, as you get deeper into camp these days get tougher to grind through. I thought these guys did a good job of grinding," said Montgomery.

"Our level of intensity was good. Guys are flying around and communicating. You've got to get to that point when you're this tired your mind has to take over, then you still have to work through technique and do things right.

"Communication and technique were the focus today, and I thought we did a good job of it," added Montgomery.

Montgomery also credited the older guys in keeping the encouragement and accountability levels high.

"Our seniors and older guys are doing a really good job of managing and balancing the encouragement part of it, but also holding people accountable for what we have to do. We're going to get the most out of each other every day. 'I need the most out of you, you need the most out of me. I'm going to hold you to that standard.' When we do that, that's when we become the best we can be, and the older guys doing a great job with it," Montgomery added.
