
TU Athletics DEI Committee Formed

TULSA, Okla. –– In accordance to NCAA Division I proposition 2-19-105 that was passed into legislation in January 2020, The University of Tulsa athletics department has created the TU Athletics Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee.
Proposition 2019-105 requires each NCAA DI institution and conference office to designate an athletics diversity and inclusion designee to be the primary contact and conduit for diversity and inclusion-related information. TU has created DEI committee for the Athletics Department.
The TU Athletics DEI Committee aims to spearhead and showcase the athletics department's dedication to diversity, inclusion and gender equity. "We are committed to raising awareness to diversity and inclusion issues related to the experiences of student athletes, staff and coaches," said TU's DEI chairperson Schnea Nealy, Tulsa's associate athletic director for student-athlete development.
"Our mission is to host engaging service events, symposiums, and programming aimed at enriching student-athlete and staff experiences and their relationship with TU peers, faculty, staff and surrounding communities," added Nealy.
The staff committee members include:

Christina Carter, athletic academic services
David Deets, men's basketball athlete performance
Aaron Fletcher, football
Kwanza Johnson, men's basketball
Taleya Mayberry, women's basketball
Jeremy Panakos, athletic marketing and fan experience
Raudel Perez, men's soccer
In addition to the staff committee members, TU student-athletes also on the committee include:

Rebecca Lescay, women's basketball
Malik Henry-Scott, men's soccer
Rey Idowu, men's basketball
Corey Taylor II, football
Committee projects have included: voter registration and education, DEI training for staff and coaches, antiracist workshop for all freshmen, Black Wallstreet Legacy game, tours of the John Hope Franklin Reconciliation Center and National Hispanic Month.
