TULSA, Okla. –– Borrowing the mantle of 'Kardiac Kids' from the 1980 Cleveland Browns, the nickname seems fitting for the Tulsa Golden Hurricane after its 4th come-from-behind victory this season.

Tulsa scored 30 points in the final period and 2 overtimes to claim a 30-24 win over the Tulane Green Wave Thursday night at H.A. Chapman Stadium.

After being shutout through three quarters and trailing, 14-0, Tulsa scored 21 points in the 4th quarter and 9 more in overtime for the win that moved 25th-ranked Tulsa to 5-1 overall and 5-0 in American Athletic Conference play.

In overtime, each team scored on field goals in the first OT period and then on Tulane's possession in the s3econd overtime, Tulsa All-America candidate Zaven Collins intercepted a 3rd-and-goal pass and went 96 yards for the game-winning score.

Tulsa ended the game with 522 total yards, including a season-high 343 passing yards and 179 yards on the ground. The Hurricane defense held Tulane to 302 total yards, including just 76 passing yards.

In sending the game to overtime, it took a spectacular 4th quarter offensive performance led by third-string quarterback Davis Brin.

Tulsa lost starting quarterback Zach Smith in the first half and backup Seth Boomer in the third quarter with injuries, thus putting Brin in the driver's seat of the Golden Hurricane offense. The sophomore rushed for one touchdown and threw for 2 more in the fourth quarter comeback that put the game into overtime tied at 21.

Brin guided the Hurricane to an 84-yard, 10-play drive and ran the final 18 yards for the first Tulsa score at the 9:17 mark of the 4th quarter. After the Tulsa defense held Tulane to 8 yards in 5 plays, Brin again took the Hurricane down the field and on a 4th-and-15 completed a 19-yard pass to Josh Johnson in the back of the end zone to tie the game at 14-14 with the PAT with 3:16 left in the contest.

On the subsequent kickoff, Tulane's Amare Jones returned it 71 yards to the Tulsa 28-yard line putting the Green Wave in position for what appeared to be the game-winning touchdown. Tulane scored on a 19-yard scoring toss from Michael Pratt to Tyrick James to make the score 21-14 with less than 2 minutes on the clock.

Starting from their own 25-yard line, Tulsa took possession with 1:38 left on the game clock. Brin marched the Hurricane down the field by completing 5-of-8 passes to reach the Tulane 37-yard line with just 0:06 remaining on the clock. Brin took the snap on 3rd-and-7, avoided a tackler and launched a 'Hail Mary' pass to the right corner of the end zone to a waiting JuanCarlos Santana, who went up and brought in the 37-yarder for the touchdown and after the PAT a 21-21 tie with no time remaining.

For the game, Brin completed 18-of-28 passes for 266 yards and 2 touchdowns, while rushing for 11 yards and one touchdown on 4 carries. Santana ended the game with a career-best 138 yards on 8 receptions, while Josh Johnson caught 7 passes for 95 yards. Tulsa's run game manufactured 179 yards, mostly on the legs of Corey Taylor, rushing for his sixth career 100-yard game with 132 yards on 19 carries.

Tulsa's opportunistic defense was led by Collins with 15 tackles and his 96-yard interception return. Kendarin Ray added 10 stops and one pass break-up.

Brin entered the game in the third quarter with the ball on the Tulane 45-yard line and moved the Hurricane to the Green Wave 17-yard line on consecutive completions of 20 and 29 yards. However, a controversial fumble after Malik Rodger's 29-yard reception gave Tulane possession.

Tulsa's took the second-half kickoff to the Tulane 33-yard line, but a fumble ended any chances for the Hurricane to see the end zone as the contest remained scoreless until the Green Wave's next drive.

On Tulane's second possession of the third period, the Green Wave took possession at the 50-yard line and went seven plays to score the game's first points for a 7-0 lead. The score came at the 5:25 mark of the third quarter when Stephen Huderson ran in from 5 yards out.

After Tulsa failed on a 4th-and-1 from their own 29-yard line, the Green Wave made it 14-0 on a 27-yard from Michael Pratt to Will Wallace completion with 3:07 remaining in the third quarter.

The Hurricane moved inside Tulane's 30-yard line 4 times in the first 3 quarters but came away with zero points, missing a 46-yard field goal and turning the ball over 3 times.

It was a defensive stand-off through the first half as the halftime score stood at 0-0.

Both teams had chances to put points on the board in the first quarter but each missed field goal attempts. The Green Wave's 54-yard attempt on its first possession of the second quarter was missed when it hit the right upright.

Seth Boomer came out in the second quarter to lead the Tulsa offense replacing Zach Smith who went out with an injury. Tulsa was threatening before the intermission, but a Boomer pass was intercepted at the one-yard line on a 1st-and-10 from the Tulane 16-yard line.

At halftime, Tulsa held as 136 to 122-yard edge in total offense. Tulsa gained 92 yards on the ground and 44 yards passing, while the Green Wave tallied 110 rushing yards and just 12 yards passing.

Tulsa will be on the road next week in Houston, Texas, to take on the Cougars of the University of Houston on Saturday. The game time will be announced on Sunday.
