Perry's 3-Run Home Run Secures Victory Over Mercer 5-1

MACON, Ga. – The Hurricane continued their hot start to the season defeating the host school, Mercer Bears, in the third game of the Mercer Invitational Saturday afternoon by a 5-1 score. Tulsa improved to 3-0 on the season with the victory.

Chenise Delce picked up her second win of the season throwing 5.0 innings, striking out 5 and allowing 1 earned run. She went 1-4 from the plate with a home run in the first inning to give the Hurricane the early lead. Delce has now hit a home run in all three games this season.

Tulsa held a 2-1 lead heading into the top half of the final inning. With one out, Kylie Norwood singled, followed up by a single from Tajiah Ellison who drove a ball up the middle. Two batters later, senior Alexis Perry, with two outs, homered to left field extending Tulsa's lead to 5-1.

Kassidy Scott entered the game in the bottom of the 6th; she struck out the next 5 of 6 batters, giving up a single to score Mercer's only run. After five saves last season, the senior picked up her first save of the 2020 season.

Aubree Seaney started the 6th inning with a single to left field, advancing to second on an error by the left fielder. Kyndal Pirtle pinch ran for Seaney scoring her first run as a Hurricane on a sacrifice fly by Mikayla Whitten.

For the Bears (2-2), Bailey Pattison (1-1) took the loss after she allowed 4 earned runs over 7.0 innings. Center fielder Allie Jones' single in the bottom of the 6th scored the lone run for Mercer.

The Hurricane is back in action tomorrow at 10:15 (CT) against Dayton in the final game of the Mercer Invitational. The game scheduled against Eastern Kentucky on Saturday night was cancelled.
