MIAMI, Fla. –
The Tulsa Golden Hurricane (11-9) could not overcome a 5 run second inning by the FIU Golden Panthers, falling in the opening game of the FIU Classic 5-3.

In the top of the 7th inning, Kari Briggs led off for the Hurricane drawing a walk before being pinch ran for by Grace Jarvis. Jarvis advanced to second on a wild pitch, but a Hurricane strikeout and ground out ended the game.

The Hurricane scored 3 runs on 7 hits but had two costly errors both of which occurred in the second inning. With two outs, an error by the left fielder allowed for FIU to score its first run. Later in the inning, an error by the catcher on a throw to the plate allowed for the Panthers to score two additional runs.

For the second weekend in a row, Kari Briggs showed off her power from the plate. In the top of the fifth inning, Briggs sent a solo shot over the right field fence to cut the Panthers lead to 5-3.

In the top of the 3rd inning, Kyndal Pirtle reached on an error, and Alexis Perry was hit by a pitch to put two runners on for the Hurricane. After a wild pitch, Briggs drove in Pirtle on a sacrifice fly to give Tulsa their second run of the game.

Chenise Delce entered the game for the Hurricane in the 3rd inning and dominated. The sophomore pitched 4.0 innings not allowing a hit while strike out 4 FIU batters.

With two outs in the bottom of the second inning, Sarah Briers put Tulsa on the board with its first hit of the game off of a single to right field. Aubree Seaney followed Briers with a single of her own to left field. Freshman Abby Jones gave Tulsa a 1-0 lead scoring Briers on another 2-out single to left field.

Sara Llamas-Howell drew her second career start for the Hurricane, going 2.0 innings giving up 4 hits, 5 runs, 3 walks and striking out one Golden Panther batter.
