
Tulsa Starts FIU Classic on Thursday

Tulsa (11-8) is coming into the weekend after winning 3-of-5 games in the OSU/TU Tournament. The Hurricane secured victories over UIC and Drake twice, all three contests by the run-rule. Tulsa fell to the nation's 10th-ranked Oregon Ducks, 3-2, and Louisville in extra innings 3-2.
Last weekend, sophomore Celyna Shaw went 3-3 from the plate with 3 home runs and 4 RBIs in the second game against Drake. Shaw had been to the plate 7 times before the Drake contest without a hit. She became the first-ever Tulsa player to hit 3 home runs in a game, with the previous record of 2 happening 20 times in Tulsa history.
Red-shirt freshman Kari Briggs led the Hurricane from the plate during the OSU/TU Invitational batting .364 with 4 hits in 11 at-bats. Against #10 Oregon, Briggs had two hits and drove in two runs with her first career home run and added a double in three at-bats.

Weekly Notes
TULSA AT FIU CLASSIC
• The FIU Classic gets underway Thursday on Felsberg Field at the FIU Softball Stadium in Miami, Florida, as Tulsa faces host FIU in a 4:00 p.m. game.
• This is the 5th straight weekend in which Tulsa is in a tournament.
• Tulsa will face Maryland on the second day at 11:30 a.m (CT) before taking on Samford at 5:00 p.m. Friday.
• The Hurricane closes out the weekend facing off against Maryland at 8:30 a.m. (CT) on Saturday, completing the weekend against Ball State at noon.
TULSA GOES 3-2 LAST WEEKEND
• Tulsa went 3-2 last weekend with 2 wins over Drake and one victory against Illinois-Chicago at the OSU/TU Softball Invitational, all three of those games were decided by a run-rule.
• Tulsa defeated Drake 8-0 in both games and had a 9-1 win over UIC.
• The Hurricane began play on Friday against the nation's 10th-ranked Oregon Ducks.
• The Tulsa-Oregon game was scoreless until the 5th inning when the Ducks broke through with 3 runs in the top of the inning.
• Tulsa's Kari Briggs' two-run shot to right field made the score 3-2 in the bottom of the 5th inning.
* Tulsa got a baserunner on in the bottom of the 7th inning but failed to score.
BRIGGS HAS BIG WEEKEND IN OSU/TU TOURNAMENT
• Red-shirt freshman Kari Briggs led the Hurricane from the plate during the OSU/TU Invitational batting .364 with 4 hits in 11 at-bats.
• Against #10 Oregon, Briggs had two hits driving in two runs with her first career home run and added a double in three at-bats.
• In her only hit against Drake on Feb. 29, Briggs hit her second home run of the weekend helping Tulsa to an 8-0 run-rule win against the Bulldogs ... she also had her first career triple against UIC in the second game on Saturday.
PERRY, JACKSON HOT AT THE PLATE
• Sophomore Makayla Jackson leads Tulsa at the plate with a .421 batting average with 8 hits in 19 at-bats, while also coming in with a .474 slugging percentage.
• Senior Alexis Perry has a .353 batting average and leads the Hurricane in hits (18) and RBIs (14) in 51 at-bats … Perry is second on the team with a .588 slugging percentage.
PITCHERS OFF TO GOOD START
• Tulsa has spread out its starts on the mound through the early part of the season as Tulsa's "Big 3" has each started at least 5 games.
• Sophomore Chenise Delce has a 5-3 record in 7 starts and 2.42 ERA, while pitching the most innings at 52.0.
• Senior Kassidy Scott has started 6 games recording 2 wins and 2 saves ... has a 2.15 ERA in 29.1 innings pitched.
• Junior Samantha Pochop has a team-high 1.19 ERA in 9 appearances and 5 starts … with 50 strikeouts in 37.2 innings, Pochop ranks 16th nationally for strike-out to walk ratio.
A GOOD START
• In its first two tournaments, the Hurricane claimed an 8-1 record.
• After 9 games it was the best start since Tulsa began the 2014 campaign 8-1 and eventually went 12-1 to start the year.
• Tulsa's 7-0 start to the season was the second best start by a Hurricane team ... only the 2002 Golden Hurricane started better, opening the season 8-0.
• Tulsa swept through the Mercer Invitational, Feb. 7-9, defeating Tennessee Tech, Eastern Kentucky, Mercer and Dayton finishing the tournament with a 4-0 record.
• In the second weekend, the Hurricane traveled to Starkville, Miss. for the Bulldog Kickoff Classic, going 4-1.
