
Tulsa Men Place Third at Prestigious Nuttycombe Invitational

MADISON, Wisc. –– The 12th-ranked Tulsa men's cross-country team finished in third place in a 32-team field at the prestigious Nuttycombe Invitational on Friday afternoon. The Golden Hurricane women finished in 34th place at the Zimmer Championships Course.
Tulsa's men recorded 160 points in the 8K race, finishing behind the nation's 6th-ranked Iowa State Cyclones and 3rd-ranked Stanford. ISU was paced by individual champion Wesley Kiptoo as the Cyclones totaled 88 points, while Stanford had 104 points for second place.
The Hurricane placed ahead of three teams with higher national rankings, including No. 9 Oregon, No. 10 Furman and No. 11 Wisconsin.
Tulsa had three runners finish among the top-30 as Scott Beattie paced the Hurricane in 18th place with a time of 23:45.7. Peter Lynch came in 23rd place in a time of 23:48.6 and newcomer Cormac Dalton clocked a time of 23:50.3 for 26th place.
Shay McEvoy finished in 43rd place in a time of 23:57.5 and Michael Power placed 50th with a time of 24:03.7 to finish out the scoring for the Hurricane men.
The women placed 34th overall as the Hurricane had two performers place among the top-150 runners in the field 267 participants. Katharina Pesendorfer clocked a 6K time of 21:31.8 for 137th place, while Caroline Miller finished in 146th with a time of 21:37.0.
Pesendorfer's time was her best 6K time this season, better her 21:50.7 time from the Cowboy Jamboree, while Miller's time was just one second off of tying her season best.
Tulsa will be in action next at the American Athletic Conference Championships, where both teams will look to defend their league titles at the South Florida course in Tampa.
