Tulsa Cross Country Looks to Continue AAC Success at Friday’s Conference Championships

TULSA, Okla. –– The University of Tulsa men's and women's cross-country teams will look to defend their titles at the American Athletic Conference Championships on Friday morning at Holloway Park in Lakeland, Fla.
The men come into the race as the ninth-ranked team nationally and run their 8K race at 7:00 a.m. The women's 6K starts at 7:50.
The event will stream on ESPN+ starting at 6:50 a.m. Dennis McNulty will call both races, and The American's Morgan Uber will be on location for interviews. The Tulsa men are seeking their 12th-straight conference title dating back to 2010 when the Hurricane were members of Conference USA. Since joining The American Athletic Conference in 2014, the Hurricane have won every title and will try to add an eighth to the list.
The Tulsa women are vying for their third consecutive title and fourth as a member of the conference. Overall, the Hurricane women have seven conference titles, winning one as a member of the WAC (2003) and two in Conference USA (2010, 2013).
The men will run four of the racers who finished in the top-15 a season ago. Scott Beattie paces the returners. He was runner-up to teammate Patrick Dever in the 2020-21 AAC Championship with a time of 23:34.76. Beattie has finished second the past three championships. Beattie is joined by Peter Lynch, Shay McEvoy and Christian Baker as the top returners.
Katharina Pesendorfer and Caroline Miller lead the way for the Hurricane women. Pesendorfer finished sixth a season ago with a time of 21:25.24, and Miller clocked in at 21:33.12 and placed seventh. Just outside of top-15 was Alice Newcombe in 17th.
Last season, the men posted a point total of 20, outpacing Cincinnati's 54. The women finished with 40, 21 points better than second-place Wichita State.
