"Great teachers inspire students to become just like them and they can provide life-changing experience for students," said Gadlin. "Some of the greatest people I've ever known have been my teachers and I just want to be able to give that to students. This lets me know that I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing and I'm where I'm supposed to be. I am honored and excited to be the recipient."
All student-athlete recipients were recommended by campus representatives based on their aspirations to pursue a career in teaching or coaching, with the grand prize winner selected by the College Football Playoff Foundation Go Teach Committee.
Gadlin, a 6'5" sophomore, has played in 27 career games with 20 stats. He has started seven games at left guard this season and has helped pave the way for the Golden Hurricane offense to put up 192.9 rushing yards and 442 yards of total offense.
"X'Zauvea is one of the hardest working, active, and caring student-athletes I have ever come across. He represents not only himself well, but also his team, the athletics department, the University of Tulsa, and the American Athletic Conference with first class. He truly has a passion for giving back to others, and he will make a lasting impact upon his students as a teacher who makes learning fun and whom his students will never forget," said Christina Carter, Tulsa's associate Athletic Director for Academic & Student Services. "He is truly deserving of the CFP scholarship as I know this $10,000 award will provide him with opportunities to expand his future teaching career."
The CFP Foundation and Dr Pepper are dedicated to growing the Go Teach initiative to place qualified teachers in classrooms across the nation. Over the next six years, the CFP Foundation and Dr Pepper are awarding a collective $1.5 million in tuition to provide support and recognition for student-athletes majoring in education.
