TULSA, Okla. –– The University of Tulsa men's basketball team begins its 111th season of basketball when it welcomes Northwestern State to the Donald W. Reynolds Center on Wednesday evening. The game will tip at 7:00 p.m. and will be shown on ESPN+.
 
Tulsa is 16-6 in home openers at the Reynolds Center and 69-41 In season openers.
 
The Hurricane return seven letterwinners and three starters from last season's team that upset No. 5 Houston and swept the season series against Memphis. Tulsa welcomes eight newcomers, including the return of forward Jeriah Horne and four other transfers. Tulsa was picked to finish seventh in The American Athletic Conference preseason polls. 
 
The American's reigning Sixth Man of the Year Darien Jackson returns after leading the conference in shooting 64.0 percent from the field. Rey Idowu is the lead returning scorer, as he looks to improve on his 7.9 points per game and 3.8 rebounds.
 
Horne and other transfers LaDavius Draine, Sam Griffin and Tim Dalger will look to bolster the Hurricane offense. They're joined by Nikita Konstantynovskyi, Gavyn Elkamil, Sterling Gaston-Chapman and Anthony Pritchard.
 
Last week, Tulsa posted an 84-53 exhibition win against Northeastern State. Griffin led all scorers with 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Horne scored 15 points of his own and Iodwu added 12 to lead the Hurricane.
 
After the opener, Tulsa hosts Air Force on Saturday at noon and then Oregon State on Monday night on ESPNU.
