Tulsa Men’s Tennis Downs Temple 6-1

TULSA, Okla. –– The Tulsa Golden Hurricane men's tennis team downed the Temple Owls 6-1 Wednesday night at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Tulsa improved to 11-8 on the season, while the Owls fell to 9-2.

Tulsa claimed the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead and the Hurricane clinched the victory with three straight singles wins before Temple put its first point on the scoreboard.

Ezequiel Santalla took a straight set 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 3 spot to put Tulsa's first singles win in the books. Callum Gale, a 6'7" freshman playing in his first collegiate singles match, captured a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the No. 6 spot, while Stefan Hampe clinched the Tulsa win at the No. 4 spot with two straight 6-4 wins.

Temple got on the scoreboard with a win at the No. 5 spot before Tulsa's top two singles players fought back from 1-0 deficits. At the No. 2 position, Connor Di Marco lost the first set 6-4 and trailed in the second by a score of 5-2 before winning the next five games for a 7-5 victory. He closed out his match with a 6-1 win in the final set.

Kody Pearson came back after losing the first set, 6-2, with 6-4, 6-4 victories in the next two sets at the No. 1 position.

Tulsa will close out the regular season on the road against three conference opponents, including SMU (April 11), #39 USF (April 18) and #9 UCF (April 20) before beginning play in the American Athletic Conference Championship on April 23 in Orlando, Fla.
