
Hurricane Softball Adds Third Baseman Claira Skaggs

TULSA, Okla. – The Tulsa Golden Hurricane softball program added third baseman Claira Skaggs to its 2021 class, it was announced today by head softball coach Crissy Strimple.
Skaggs, a 5-6 infielder, was a four-year starter at Westmoore High School in Oklahoma City, Okla. In her four seasons at Westmoore she led the Jaguars to a 113-39 record. She lead Westmoore to a state championship her sophomore season, as well as a regional championship her junior campaign.
"We are excited to welcome Claira to Tulsa and our softball program. Our goal is to bring in student athletes who will succeed both in the classroom and on the field, which we feel Claira will do," said Strimple, "Claira, an Oklahoma talent, brings a strong left-handed bat that can hit for power and average to our team. "
During her senior season, she recorded a .539 batting average and a .614 on-base-percentage. She dominated in the field as well, putting in a .966 fielding percentage. In Skaggs junior season, she recorded a .462 batting average and a .525 on-base-percentage.
She was named to the Oklahoma High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association Large West all-state team her senior season. Westmoore named Skaggs their Female Athlete of the Year following her senior season.
Skaggs joins Makenzie Brown, Kailyn Bearpaw and Celeste Wood in the Hurricane 2021 signing class.
