TULSA, Okla. –– Since starting preseason camp on Wednesday, the Tulsa Golden Hurricane football team practiced Friday morning for the third straight day on the grass of Harwell Field.
"It was a little warmer today. We probably needed to feel that a little bit and I thought our guys handled it really well. The energy level was still really good," said Tulsa Head Coach Philip Montgomery. "I thought there was good give and take again today. I liked the way offensively we came out of the gates, but we have to finish a little better than we did. The defense bounced back and finished practice really well and made big plays."
"What I really like seeing is that we have good give and take right now on both sides of the ball. The competition level is great and if we can keep that up we'll continue to get better," said Montgomery.
Montgomery has been pleased with the play of the newcomers, both freshmen and transfers, who have been thrown a lot in the first three days of practice.
"We're continuing to install at a pretty good pace. I think our new guys are really retaining the information and now it's a matter of being able to process that and play fast with it. That's what we have to move towards. We're doing some good things, but obviously we have room to grow," added Montgomery.
Tulsa will be off on Saturday before returning to the practice field on Sunday.
