LAKE CHARLES, La.
– The University of Tulsa softball team lost both of its games in the second day of the Evangeline Bank and Trust Invitation on Saturday afternoon.

The fifth inning was the culprit again in game one, as UAB scored four in the bottom of the inning and would go on to win 5-1. Game two saw Tulsa fall behind 2-0 in the first inning and eventually succumb to the hosts, McNeese State, 6-0.

The Golden Hurricane moves to 0-3 on the season will travel to Lafayette, La. for a pair of Sunday games in the 36th Annual Louisiana Classics. Tulsa will open with a rematch against UAB at 10 a.m. before closing the weekend with a game against the 19th-ranked Ragin' Cajuns at noon or shortly after the conclusion of game one.

Game One

Kylee Nash was lights out through in the opening four frames of her first start to the season, allowing only one hit. The Blazers broke through in the fifth after a leadoff walk and subsequent double put both runners in scoring position. Back-to-back singles gave UAB a 2-0 lead. They'd score two more runs on the inning through a groundout and then an error to take a 4-0 lead.

Tulsa got on the board in the top of the sixth inning. Haley Morgan drew a two-out walk and then Celeste Wood picked up the RBI with her second triple of the early season. However, she was stranded there, leaving Tulsa trailing 4-1.

UAB reestablished it's four-run lead in the bottom of the frame. A leadoff single and then consecutive passed balls set up an opportunity for a groundout allowing the run to score to make it 5-1.

Nash (0-1) pitched 5.2 innings and allowed five hits, four earned runs and struck out two. UAB's Sarah Cespedes (1-0) went the distance in the win allowing four hits and the one run and striking out four.

Game Two

The hosts jumped out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to small ball. A bunt single to third was followed by a steal. A single put runners on the corners and then another steal had both Cowgirl runners in scoring position. Samantha Pochop (0-2) was in the circle again for the Hurricane and forced the next two batters to ground out, but the runners scored in the process.

McNeese's Ashley Vallejo was solid in the circle, not allowing a Tulsa hit until the fifth inning and only two on the afternoon. The Hurricane reached base three times in the game, with the other coming via an error in the top of the third.

The Cowgirls extended their lead in the fourth inning with a lead out walk getting things started. A single and sacrifice bunt put runners on second and third. An infield single gave McNeese a 3-0 lead. Another steal and a walk loaded the bases. Pochop got a strikeout for the second out, but a single to right scored to Cowgirls and a double-steal allowed the sixth and final run to score.

Pochop ended with 3.1 innings pitched, six hits and two strikeouts. Sara Llamas-Howell pitched 2.2 innings in relief, allowing only a pair of hits and striking out three.
