MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Following a seven-day hiatus, the University of Tulsa softball team is back in action when the Golden Hurricane begin a series with the Memphis Tigers starting on Thursday at Tiger Softball Complex.
The teams will play on Thursday, Friday and Saturday due to the Easter Weekend. First pitch times are 5 p.m., 2 p.m. and noon, respectively. All games will air on ESPN+.
The Hurricane (12-23-1, 1-4-1 AAC) has not played since a 9-0 loss in five innings against the top-ranked Oklahoma Sooners on Wednesday, April 6. With an assist from the wind, TU held the nation's best offense to zero home runs, but OU used small ball to put its runs up. The sooners had five sacrifices and five stolen bases to go alongside nine singles.
Abby Jones is batting .336 this season to lead the team, followed closely by Haley Morgan, .324. Kylie Norwood was the only multi-hit Hurricane against the Sooners and has boosted her average back above .300 and is hitting .302. Celeste Wood's 30 RBIs is still a team high, with Morgan and MaKayla Jackson second with 16 runs driven in.
In the circle, senior Samantha Pochop lead's the hurlers with a 3.87 ERA and 7-11 record. She's thrown 114.0 innings and struck out 116 batters. She holds opponents to a .255 batting average and has more success against righties (.243) than lefties (.275).
Memphis brings a 15-26 record, 1-8 in The American, into the weekend series. The Tigers have lost eight consecutive conference games after starting AAC play with a win against East Carolina. Most recently, the UofM was dealt a sweep at the hands of No. 23 UCF.
Gracie Morton is leading the team with a .393 batting average, and her four home runs puts her in a tie for first alongside teammate Linsey Hargis. Taylor Smart leads all Tiger batters with 22 RBIs and has added three doubles and a pair of home runs.
In the circle, Hallie Siems leads a crew of six Tiger pitchers. She's recorded an 8-12 win-loss record and a 3.14 ERA in 32 appearances and 21 starts. She's struck out 97 and walked 54 and batters are hitting .283 off her.
Tulsa holds a 37-9 lead in the all-time series between the teams and are 14-4 in Memphis. Tulsa has won eight straight in the series, but the two haven't met in Memphis since 2018, when the Tigers took two of the three games.
After this weekend's series, the Hurricane will return home for the first time in a month. Tulsa will welcome No. 6 Oklahoma State on April 20th before hosting UCF in a conference showdown over the weekend. All games will air on ESPN+.
