ORLANDO, Fla. – The Golden Hurricane softball team will finish its conference road schedule with a three-game series against No. 21 UCF this weekend at UCF Softball Complex.
The series will start on Friday with a 4 p.m. first pitch, followed by 1 p.m. on Saturday for game two, and an 11 a.m. first pitch for the finale. All three games will air on ESPN+ with Eric Lopez and Kristina Wyatt bringing fans the action.
Tulsa brings a 15-26-1 record, 4-6-1 in the American, into the weekend series after splitting games with South Florida last weekend. Tula dropped a thrilling 2-1 decision in Friday's game after a sacrifice fly in the seventh lifted the Bulls to victory. Kylie Norwood gave Tulsa an early lead with a home run in the first inning, but it wasn't enough as TU left the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh.
The Hurricane responded with an 8-0 win in five innings on Saturday, the team's second run-rule win of the season. Abby Jones homered for the second time this season, a three-run blast, while Celeste Wood hit her third of the season.
Samantha Pochop pitched another complete-game shutout, her third of the season, in the win. Pochop was selected to the conference honor roll again for her performance, pitching in both games against the Bulls, allowing just two runs. Sunday's game was rained out.
UCF comes in with a 39-11 record and is 11-1 in conference, dropping in its last game against Houston, 9-8. Tulsa leads the all-time series 27-21 but are 6-14 in Orlando. Although Tulsa has won six of the past seven games in the series, the Hurricane hasn't won on the road since 2012, before joining The American. Since then, the Knights are a perfect 7-0.
Haley Morgan regained the team's batting lead over the weekend and is now hitting .323 on the season to go along with her team-leading four home runs, .480 slugging percentage and .424 on-base percentage. Wood is now up to 32 RBIs, almost doubling the next best at 17.
Pochop has a 3.52 ERA over 143.1 innings of work. She finished the weekend 1-1 and is up to a career high 139 strikeouts while holding opposing batters to a .254 batting average.
After this weekend, Tulsa will close the regular season at the Collins Family Softball Complex with a series against East Carolina. Then the Hurricane will turn around and head to Greenville, N.C. for the conference tournament. First pitch for the series against ECU is set for 5 p.m. and will air on ESPN+.
