
Tulsa Mourns Loss of TU Hall of Famer Roger Wendel

TULSA, Okla. –– University of Tulsa Athletic Hall of Famer and basketball star Roger Wendel died Sunday, May 22, at the age of 84, at his home in Lee's Summit, Missouri.
Wendel (1955-59) was a Class of 2000 inductee into The University of Tulsa Athletic Hall of Fame. He starred on the Golden Hurricane basketball varsity for three years and earned all-conference accolades twice.
The guard earned honorable mention All-America accolades, while leading Tulsa in scoring his final two seasons with 17.5 and 18.8 averages. Wendel was also the team leader in free throw percentage during his final two seasons. He had one game in which he scored all of Tulsa's points in the first eight minutes of the game for a 19-18 lead against St. Louis.
Wendel was voted team captain as a senior and went on to complete his collegiate career with 1,121 points.
Wendel was the 80th pick in the 1959 NBA Draft by the Cincinnati Royals.
