Jose Robles was promoted to associate head coach and Owen McCorkle was named as an assistant coach, as announced today by Tulsa men's soccer head coach Tom McIntosh.

Robles begins his third season with the Golden Hurricane after having served as assistant coach the past two years, while McCorkle is in his fourth season overall with the program after previously serving as a volunteer assistant (2019) and a graduate assistant (2020-21) for TU.

During Robles' tenure, Tulsa has recorded a 22-6-3 overall record.  In 2021, TU tied program-bests of 16 wins and a No. 2 national ranking, claimed The American regular season and tournament titles, and went on to advance to the NCAA Championship Third Round.

Robles helped coach Mariano Fazio to 2021 NCAA Division I Men's All-America third team honors, while Alex Lopez was named the 2021 Top Drawer Soccer Freshman of the Year, and five players were tabbed to the United Soccer Coaches all-east region teams.  The Tulsa men's soccer team claimed every American Athletic Conference honor possible in 2021, including Offensive Player of the Year (Alex Meinhard), Defensive Player of the Year (Mariano Fazio), Midfielder of the Year (Henry Sach), Goalkeeper of the Year (Alex Lopez), Rookie of the Year (Alex Lopez), Coaching Staff of the Year (Tulsa) and Team Fair Play Award (Tulsa).  A year earlier, Robles helped coach The American Offensive Player and Rookie of the Year (Alex Meinhard), and picked up Coaching Staff of the Year honors.

Robles has also been instrumental in coaching 10 student-athletes to The American all-conference honors, three to all-rookie team accolades and eight to all-tournament team honors.

"Coach Robles has made a positive impact in all areas of our program, and he has earned the opportunity to become the Associate Head Coach for Tulsa Men's Soccer," McIntosh said.  "I'm not the type of person to hand out promotions or title changes easily, but Coach Robles has positively impacted the players and program immensely in a short period of time.  We have a great understanding of one another, and he has been an integral part of our staff winning The American's Coaching Staff of the Year honor the past two seasons."

McCorkle will now coach field players, but has served as the goalkeeper coach for three years (2019-21).  He coached Alex Lopez to Top Drawer Soccer Freshman of the Year, United Soccer Coaches all-east region team, American Athletic Conference Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Year accolades, as well as The American all-conference and all-Rookie team honors in 2021.  Lopez also finished the season ranked seventh in the nation in goals-against average (.723).

"Coach McCorkle has tremendously influenced our program since he decided to become our volunteer coach in 2019," McIntosh said.  "He has demonstrated the ability to handle many different tasks, on and off the field, since his arrival and has earned the respect of everyone associated with Tulsa Athletics.  I am confident that he will continue to make our players and program better which is why I have promoted him to assistant coach."
