Tulsa’s Lachlan Wilson Named Ray Guy National Punter of the Week

AUGUSTA, Ga. –– University of Tulsa junior punter Lachlan Wilson was named the Ray Guy National Punter of the Week, it was announced today by The Augusta Sports Council.
 
Wilson, a 6'3" junior from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, only punted four times in Tulsa's 54-17 win over Jacksonville State last Saturday, averaging 44.5 yards, but all four of those punts landed inside the 20-yard line. The first three of his punts were downed inside the 5-yard line – at the 3, 4 and 1-yard lines.

After the first one, a 50-yarder, was downed at the 3, Tulsa scored on a safety and his final punt carried to the 15-yard line and was fumbled then recovered by Tulsa at the JAX State 2-yard line.
 
Wilson was chosen the week 3 winner from the list of Ray's 8 punters announced on Monday that included –– Adam Korsak (Rutgers), Kai Kroeger (South Carolina), Mason Hunt (Southern Miss) Michael Turk (Oklahoma), Nik Constantinou (Texas A&M), Peter Moore (Virginia Tech) and Tory Taylor (Iowa).
 
Tulsa plays at Ole Miss this Saturday with game time set for 3 p.m. from Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Miss. The game will be televised on the SEC Network and aired on Big Country 99.5 FM radio.
 
About the Ray Guy Award
The Augusta Sports Council created the Ray Guy Award in 2000 to honor Thompson, Georgia native and College and Pro Football Hall of Fame Inductee, Ray Guy. Among the statistics used to identify the winner is net punting average, number of times punt is downed or kicked out of bounds inside the opponents 20-yard line, total yardage punted, average returned yardage and percentage of punts not returned with particular emphasis on net punting average. The winner must display team leadership, self-discipline and have a positive impact on the team's success.
