IRVING, Texas – For the second consecutive week, a Tulsa Golden Hurricane student-athlete earned the American Athletic Conference's weekly football award, the league office announced on Monday. Redshirt freshman quarterback Cardell Williams was named the AAC's Offensive Player of the Week.
Williams accounted for 334 yards and four touchdowns (three passing, one rushing) in Tulsa's 48-26 win against Temple Thursday night. He completed 82% of his passes (14-of-17) for 244 yards and three TDs, while leading the Hurricane in rushing with 90 yards on 10 carries, including a 22-yard TD run. Williams' three touchdown throws came in the first half to give Tulsa a 21-3 halftime lead.
Williams became the first Tulsa freshman in program history to have two games with three or more touchdown passes and became just the third rookie to be responsible for four touchdowns.
Safety Kendarin Ray was named the Defensive Player of the Week for his performance a week earlier against Northern Illinois, while Williams was named to the league's weekly honor roll after Tulsa's first game of the season against UAPB.
