Ashlyn Fernandez Named to Honor Roll

TULSA, Okla. –– Tulsa women's soccer senior Kayla Fernandez was named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, while junior defender Ashlyn Fernandez was named to the weekly honor roll, the league office announced today.
 
Kayla Fernandez scored the game-winning goal in a 5-0 win over Temple on Thursday, putting the Golden Hurricane a goal ahead inside of three minutes. She'd go on to grab an assist later in the game. In Sunday's come-from-behind win over UAB, Fernandez recorded two assists from set pieces. The first from a corner to cut the lead to 2-1, and then later in the game she whipped in a free kick that was headed home by her younger sister Ashlyn for the winning goal.
 
Ashlyn Fernandez recorded a brace in the win against UAB, collecting her first two goals of the season. She scored the team's first goal, halving the deficit with a powerful header off the Kayla Fernandez corner. Later, she would get on the end of a free kick from her sister, giving Tulsa a 3-2 lead and flipping the result.  The junior also played a major role in Tulsa's shutout of Temple earlier in the week.
 
The Golden Hurricane has clinched a spot in the American Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Championship with the win on Sunday. The tournament starts on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Fla. Tulsa will finish the regular season with a home game against No. 10 Memphis on Thursday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Hurricane Soccer Stadium and will air on ESPN+.
