Â
NEW ORLEANS, La. –– Tulsa goes into New Orleans Saturday to square off against the league-leading and 20th-ranked Tulane Green Wave in an 11 a.m. (CT) game televised on ESPN2.
Â
The Green Wave (8-1, 5-0 AAC) come into the contest on a six-game winning streak and tied with SMU and UTSA atop of the American Athletic Conference standings. Tulsa is looking to snap a four-game losing streak after starting the season 3-2.
Â
Tulsa (3-6, 1-4 AAC) faces its third top-20 team of the season after confrontations with Washington and Oklahoma in non-conference games in the first three weeks of the season.
Â
The Hurricane lead the overall series 13-6 and hold a 5-4 mark in New Orleans, claiming a 20-13 overtime win in its last trip to The Big Easy.
Â
Tulsa will have its hands full offensively trying to move down the field on the stifling Green Wave defense. The Hurricane will need to score more than its 15.7 average over the last four games, while the Tulsa defense will need to slow down a balanced offensive attack.
Â
The Green Wave has one of the nation's top defenses, ranking fourth for rushing defense, 19th for pass interceptions and 20th for total defense.
Â
Tulane's offense totals 401.7 yards per game, rushing for 170 yards and throwing for another 231.3 yards. The offensive attack is led by senior quarterback Michael Pratt, who leads the AAC and is ranked fifth among the nation's leaders with a 175.9 passing efficiency. Pratt has thrown for 228 yards per game and 15 TDs, while running back Makhi Hughes leads the league in rushing with a 97.4 average per game.
Â
Tulsa comes into the game averaging 363 yards per game but allow its opponents 441 total yards and 35.5 points. The Hurricane offensive attack has shown balance with 191 coming on the ground and 172.5 through the air.
Â
The Hurricane offense has suffered a number of injuries to skill position players – quarterback, running back and receiver – that has limited Tulsa's offensive output this season. Defensively, Tulsa has been without some key players as well.
