Three NIL Platforms established to assist TU student-athletes
TULSA, Okla. –– The University of Tulsa Athletics announced the launch of its official school-specific name, image, and likeness (NIL) marketplace powered by Opendorse to help Golden Hurricane student-athletes leverage their personal NIL opportunities.
The University of Tulsa welcomed three different NIL platforms to benefit student-athletes: Hurricane Impact, Inc., Golden Hurricane Sports Properties (GHSP) Allied NIL and the Tulsa Academic Enhancement Award. TU does not receive any financial benefit from any NIL platforms. NCAA rules require that universities advise the student-athletes to ensure an equitable and ethical process.
Hurricane Impact, Inc., is an independent Oklahoma 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit corporation that has been established to solicit financial support from individuals and corporations wishing to support student-athletes across all sports who are attending The University of Tulsa. Those interested in participating in the Hurricane Impact fund can go online at HURRICANE IMPACT or can contact David Fuess, executive director of the Hurricane Impact fund, at 817.896.8650 or dfuess@outlook.com.
GHSP Allied NIL provides corporate sponsors with the opportunity to include Tulsa intellectual property (marks and logos) in their NIL deals with student-athletes. LEARFIELD, which does not represent student-athletes, manages its Allied NIL initiative directly with sponsors through its local Golden Hurricane Sports Properties team. When any third-party integration is needed for student-athlete connections, Opendorse is the recommended marketplace.
The Tulsa Academic Enhancement provides additional aid to TU student-athletes for academic and living expenses not covered by their university scholarship. Awards are given based on academic achievement. Each student-athlete is eligible for a maximum of $8,000 per calendar year through the Tulsa Academic Enhancement Award. Gifts given to the Tulsa Academic Enhancement Award are eligible for Golden Hurricane Champions Fund benefits and may be tax deductible. Donors should consult a tax advisor for guidance on what is tax deductible). Those interested in participating in the Tulsa Academic Enhancement should contact Pooh Williamson at pooh-williamson@utulsa.edu.
Hurricane fans can visit opendorse.com/tulsa-goldenhurricane, to find The University of Tulsa student-athletes, who has opted into the marketplace. Common NIL deals include video "shoutouts," appearances, social media endorsements and more. All communication for the deal – from pitch to payment – takes place through the Opendorse app to monitor both the endorsee and endorser. Student-athletes receive compensation once the deal is complete as established in the guidelines of the NIL deal established through the Opendorse app process.
"We are committed to providing our student-athletes with the best resources possible to maximize their NIL opportunities," said Rick Dickson, Tulsa's vice president and director of athletics. "We have confidence that Opendorse, Hurricane Impact Collective and GHSP Allied NIL will assist our student-athletes in that regard."
The Tulsa NIL Marketplace is one of the many resources Hurricane student-athletes have to help capitalize on their NIL during their tenure with The University of Tulsa. Other resources include disclosures through a mobile app, education sessions, and personal brand-building tools such as INFLCR, which provides student-athletes with social media engagement statistics, and now Opendorse.
"Starting today, any fan, brand, donor and sponsor can support any Golden Hurricane student-athlete at the click of a button," said Opendorse senior director of collegiate partnerships Tim Pederson. "The Golden Hurricane is now in prime position to make the most of their NIL opportunities with the leading marketplace, education and compliance solutions."
Every Tulsa student-athlete will have the opportunity to receive an Opendorse profile, which they can customize to let fans know more about their interests and NIL deals that they are seeking. The student-athletes can share their Opendorse profile on their social media accounts to help promote their marketplace to their fans.
Opendorse is one of the leading NIL solutions for student-athletes. It maximizes NIL opportunities for more than 80,000 athletes and has facilitated thousands of NIL deals and endorsements at every level of sports since it was founded in 2012.
